What is 2FA?
2FA stands for Two-Factor Authentication.
Basically, 2FA is an extra layer of security for your Fortnite account.
Here is how Epic Games describe it: “Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) can be used to help protect your account from unauthorized access by requiring you to enter a security code when you sign in.”
Epic Games encourages you to enable 2FA because account security is a top priority. And as a reward for enabling 2FA, you’ll unlock the Boogie Down emote in Fortnite Battle Royale.
And you’ll get the following items in Fortnite Save the World:
- 50 Armory Slots
- 10 Backpack Slots
- 1 Legendary Troll Stash Llama
If you haven’t enabled 2FA on your account (or want to find out if you have) then it’s super simple to do so.
You can watch the video below or read on to learn more.
Go to EpicGames.com/2FA
The first thing you need to do is head over to EpicGames.com/2FA.
You’ll then be asked to enter your email address and password for your Epic Games account.
Once you’ve signed in you’ll be redirected to your account page and taken to the Password & Security section.
You then have 2 choices for enabling 2FA on your account:
- Authenticator app
- Email authentication
If you prefer to use an authenticator app, here are some authenticator apps Epic Games recommend that you can find in your mobile app store:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Or if you use your email address then a code will be sent to the email address associated with your Epic Games account.
Once you’ve opted into 2FA, you’ll be asked to enter the code from your preferred method. And then you’ll get signed into your account.
You’ll get prompted for the 2FA code when you try to sign in to your account and:
- You’re using a new device
- It’s been over 30 days since you last signed in
- You recently cleared your browsers cookies
Now that you’ve enabled 2FA the next time you sign in to your Fortnite account you should receive your free Boogie Down emote reward.
Conclusion
2FA is a great way to keep your account secure and protect your skins and dances you got from the Fortnite item shop.
With 2FA, even if a hacker has your password they won’t be able to access your account unless they have your 2FA code.
Of course, there are some other things you should know to keep your account secure. For example, do not share your Epic Games password with anyone.
Remember, Epic games employees will never ask for your password.
Don’t use a password that’s easy to guess, either. Make sure you use a mix of capital and lower case letters as well as numbers.
Hackers can use computer algorithms to automatically test for common passwords. And you can use a tool like how secure is my password to see the strength of your password.
And don’t use the same password for your Epic Games account as your email. Because if someone were to get access to one, they could get access to both.
Finally, beware of “Free V-Buck” scams or generators. These are websites that are usually trying to get sensitive information from you.
