Winterfest is here!
And that means free presents.
All you have to do is drop into Fortnite and click the new snowflake tab and then go to the Winterfest Lodge.
Here you’ll see the Crackshot skin sitting in a cozy lodge with a log fire surrounded by a Christmas tree and a bunch of presents.
Now every day for 14 days (a fortnight) you can go to the lodge and open a new present. Just move your cursor until there’s a white outline around what you want to select and then click to confirm.
Of course, you won’t be able to tell what’s in the present.
But once you’ve selected it, you can choose to open it or shake it and try to guess what’s inside based on the sound.
Although there has been a lack of patch notes in Fortnite as of Chapter 2, Epic Games did release a blog post for Winterfest 2019.
So we know that inside the presents are; two Outfits (skins), two Gliders, two Pickaxes, two Wraps, and more.
Also, all the presents are exclusive to this year’s Winterfest event. In other words, you’re not going to get any of these items again so they could become rare items in the future.
The presents are free for everyone to open, and don’t worry if you miss any days. You just need to get on Fortnite before January 7 to open everything.
I’m not going to spoil the surprise by showing you exactly what’s in your presents. But if you really can’t wait to open them, then this post from FortniteInsider has a list of the Winterfest rewards.
Winterfest challenges
Don’t forget to check your Christmas stockings to unlock Winterfest challenges.
Your stockings are handing on the fireplace and you check them each day to get a new challenge.
And it’s the same as with the presents, so don’t worry if you miss a day because you can just visit your stockings before January 7 to get everything that’s waiting for you.
You can complete the challenges to earn rewards and XP. So you can use them to help you get your Chapter 2 Battle Pass to tier 100 if you haven’t already.
Of course, many players have already unlocked everything in the Battle Pass from completing weekly challenges and earning medals for the punchcard.
But you can also unlock some cool wraps and loading screens, so they could be worth your time to complete.
What are the Winterfest skins?
In the Epic Games blog post it said there would be two Outfits to open in the Winterfest event.
But it doesn’t appear that anyone has actually received the reward, yet.
Now, if you’ve spent some time in the Winterfest lodge, you’ll know that there is a present that you cannot open until the last day.
So this last present is probably the one that contains the skins.
And if you look at the image Epic Games are using to promote Winterfest in Fortnite, you can see there are two Outfits.
I expect these will be the skins you will get for free during Winterfest. What do you think?
Conclusion
Fortnite is giving away a lot of free items during Winterfest, which is great for us players.
After all, it is Christmas.
For my first present, I picked the Millennium Falcon glider because I like Star Wars and it was the only present that was obvious from the wrapping.
But it’s big and obnoxious and I can’t see when gliding into a game. And when you deploy the glider and to “jump into hyperspace” it hurts my eye.
Anyway, I feel like I wasted my choice, and I’m looking forward to opening more of the presents as the event progresses.
Just make sure you sign in to Fortnite before January 7 to collect everything.
Remember, you would usually pay thousands of V-Bucks if items were like this to hit the item shop.
But the event features a lot of nostalgia with the music, old weapons returning from the vault, and some of the best LTMs being rotated out each day.
So you may want to sign in to play during the holiday regardless.
And I’m delighted that Epic Games are giving away Fortnite items for free.
